Your doctor said "You must remain face down to help assure a successful recovery from your eye surgery". Here's why.

The Macula is the central 10% of the Retina, and is the area responsible for the sharpest vision. Through natural degeneration, a hole can form in the Macula causing a decrease in vision, blank spots and blurry spots. In order to try to repair the damage, an Ophthalmologist may have to perform Vitrectomy surgery.

During surgery, the clear vitreous fluid is removed from the center of the eye. The eye is then filled with a long acting gas bubble that "floats" in the eye and (when positioned correctly) presses against the hole, flattening it on the retina and keeping it dry. The gas bubble slowly dissolves and is replaced naturally by ocular fluid.

Since the gas bubble floats and moves freely to the highest point in the eye, it is very important that you follow the instructions you have been given regarding head positioning following surgery. Keeping the macula dry and positioned properly during the healing process is extremely important. By keeping your head in a face down position, the gas bubble is positioned correctly over the macula thus holding it in place. If your head is in the wrong position, the gas bubble won't be effective. The following illustration demonstrates this principle. Your physician will advise you as to how long you must remain face down following surgery.

With the help of our positioning devices you can lie down, read, walk, and even watch television while you keep your head in the proper position. The Foam Positioning System properly supports your neck, shoulders, spine and hips while you sit or lie comfortably in the head down position. When you would like to be in an upright position, our Prism Glasses help properly position your head while allowing you to watch television, see faces, etc. Our Mobile Support helps you to be able to walk around while keeping your head properly positioned. The Ergo Chair helps assure proper head down positioning during the day when you are awake.  When used with the Ergo Chair or the Table Top and Bed Support, the patented dual mirror system of the MajicView Mirror, provides a right side up image of friends and family (and the TV!).  The Table Top and Bed Support will help with proper positioning when seated at a table or lying face down in bed.

Foam Positioning System

Our Foam Positioning System provides ergonomic support for the body when used on the bed by allowing for a more normal curve to the lower back. Air channels on all sides of the face cushion provide increased airflow. A removable cotton cover for the face pad gives a more comfortable texture where skin contact is made with the product. The multiple foam pads we provide allow for adjustments for people of all heights. The table pad is for elbow comfort when used on a tabletop.
